LOVELAND, Ohio — Railroad Avenue became a one-way street Tuesday as the city rolls out a new traffic pattern tied to an upgraded pedestrian and bicycle signal at the Little Miami Scenic Trail crossing downtown.
Drivers on Railroad Avenue must now travel one way, heading into the city’s public parking lot from West Loveland Avenue, the city said in a Facebook post. Loveland officials said the change is meant to improve safety and traffic flow in the downtown business district as new signage and pavement markings go in.
The city said the new pattern is being implemented “in conjunction with the new signalization of the bike trail crossing at West Loveland Avenue.” That crossing, where the Little Miami Scenic Trail intersects West Loveland Avenue near the heart of downtown, has for years relied on a pedestrian-activated flashing crosswalk system, with crossing guards posted during high-volume events to keep traffic moving. The city has been working since 2023 to replace that setup with an automated signal system that gives trail users and vehicles standard red-yellow-green lights, establishing clear right-of-way at one of downtown Loveland’s busiest intersections.
City officials asked drivers to watch for the new signs and pavement markings on Railroad Avenue, follow the designated one-way route and use caution while the downtown area adjusts to the new pattern.
“Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we continue making improvements to downtown Loveland,” the city said in its announcement.
