PIERCE TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A Pierce Township firefighter’s portable radio, jostled loose from a fire engine racing to a serious crash, made it back into service after an anonymous man tracked down the crew and returned it, the department said.
The radio fell off the side of the engine as the crew rushed to respond to what the department described as a significant traffic accident, Pierce Township Fire Department said in a Facebook post. It was left behind in the roadway and did not make the run with the rest of the crew.
A man who came across the radio waited for the crew to return before bringing it to the department’s station and handing it over, according to the post. The department did not release his name, describing him only as an “amazing anonymous gentleman.”
“We aren’t perfect and sometimes make mistakes,” the department said in its post, thanking the man for the help. The radio was undamaged and back in rotation for the next call, the department said.
Pierce Township Fire Department, established in 1956 as an all-volunteer department, now operates two stations — headquarters on Locust Corner Road and a second house on Mount Pisgah Road that also covers Ohio Township under a service contract. The department serves about 18,000 residents across roughly 37 square miles of southwestern Clermont County, according to the department.
