GOSHEN, Ohio — A student-produced public service announcement about teen suicide prevention will air during Sunday’s broadcast of the FIFA World Cup Final after Goshen High School’s student news program won a regional television contest.
The Goshen News Network’s PSA was named grand-prize winner of FOX19’s “Breaking the Silence: Teens Fighting Suicide” contest, Goshen Local Schools said in a social media post. The PSA is set to air during FOX19’s broadcast of the World Cup Final on Sunday, July 19, beginning around 3 p.m. Eastern, with viewers across the Greater Cincinnati television market able to see it.
The FOX19 contest invited high school students throughout the station’s 24-county Cincinnati viewing area to produce 30-second videos addressing the stigma surrounding mental health or the prevention of teen suicide, according to the station’s official contest rules. A panel of judges scored entries on awareness raised, promotion of positive change and creativity to narrow the field to three semifinalists, and the public then voted between June 8 and July 16 to choose the grand-prize winner.
The Goshen News Network is Goshen High School’s student-run broadcasting program, producing content for the roughly 3,000-student Goshen Local School District in Clermont County.
Goshen Local Schools said in its post that it could not be prouder of the students and staff behind the PSA, thanking them for “using your voices for something so important.”
