LOVELAND, Ohio — City Council on Tuesday authorized the city manager to apply for a state grant to help fund the first phase of the downtown streetscape overhaul and separately approved a grant agreement to renovate restrooms at Phillips Park.
Council voted to let City Manager submit a grant application to the Appalachian Regional Commission’s Area Development Program for the Downtown Streetscape Phase 1 Project and committed local matching funds to accompany the request, according to the city. The size of the request and the local match were not specified in the city’s announcement of the vote.
The streetscape work targets West Loveland Avenue from Second Street/state Route 48 to Karl Brown Way, according to the city’s project page. Planned improvements include new concrete walkways with brick paver accents, storm sewer and water main upgrades, tree wells and sanitary sewer work coordinated with the Cincinnati Metropolitan Sewer District. The project carries out the city’s 2022 Downtown Loveland Streetscape Plan.
Separately, council authorized the city manager to execute a grant agreement with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources for restroom renovations at Phillips Park. The 11667 Rich Road park includes three baseball fields, four soccer fields, a lighted basketball court and a playground, and serves as an access point for the Simpson Ridge and Dyson hiking trails, according to the city.
Council also reviewed its councilmanic worksheet and received an update on council goals during Tuesday’s meeting, the city said.
The next Loveland City Council meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Sept. 22.
