MILFORD, Ohio — The Milford Community Fire Department will host a community memorial service Friday to mark 25 years since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, the department said in a Facebook post.
The ceremony is scheduled for 9 a.m. at the fire station’s memorial site at department headquarters, 687 US-50 East, according to the city of Milford’s calendar of events, which lists the gathering as an annual 9/11 remembrance ceremony.
Ahead of the anniversary, the department shared photos of Lt. Baird and Firefighter Rose modeling specially designed uniform T-shirts marking the milestone. The shirts feature the date “9.11.01,” a kneeling firefighter silhouette, a fire department badge bearing the number 343 — the count of New York City firefighters killed responding to the World Trade Center attacks — a Twin Towers skyline, and the phrase “We Will Never Forget.”

The Milford Community Fire Department traces its history to the former Village of Milford Volunteer Fire Department; the agency still maintains a 1945 Seagrave pumper from that era, according to its website. The department is now organized as a not-for-profit corporation that contracts with the city of Milford to provide fire and emergency medical services, funded through a voter-approved fire and EMS levy. It keeps a minimum of six personnel on duty around the clock, and Mark Baird serves as fire chief.

Friday’s ceremony will mark a quarter-century since the attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people in New York, Washington, D.C., and near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, including 343 New York City firefighters.
