MILFORD, Ohio — Police departments from Miami Township, Milford and Loveland are teaming up to host a joint National Night Out celebration Aug. 4, inviting families to a free evening of food, games and public safety outreach at a Milford Walmart.
The event will run from 6 to 8 p.m. at the store, 201 Chamber Drive, according to a flyer posted by the village of Milford. Planned activities include free food from Granny’s Goodies on the Go, a bike raffle, face painting, a balloon artist and a train ride for children, the departments said.
National Night Out began in 1984 as “America’s Night Out Against Crime,” an initiative of the National Association of Town Watch created to build stronger ties between police departments and the neighborhoods they serve. What started with residents leaving porch lights on and gathering outside for the evening has grown into an annual tradition of block parties, cookouts and community festivals held across thousands of U.S. communities every August, including in Clermont County.
Miami Township’s department is led by Chief Adam Nielsen, who took over as chief in May 2025 after more than two decades with the Westminster Police Department in Colorado. Milford’s department is led by Chief Donald “Jamey” Mills, a 1994 hire who was promoted to chief in 2011 and also teaches police administration and criminal investigation as an adjunct instructor at the University of Cincinnati. Loveland’s department is led by Chief Michael Gabrielson, who joined the department in August 2022 after serving as assistant chief with the Kettering Police Department.
The event is free and open to the public, the departments said.
