UNION TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Union Township Police Department will host a community open house Oct. 10, inviting residents to tour the department, meet officers and learn about its programs, according to a post on the township’s Facebook page.
The event runs from noon to 4 p.m. at department headquarters, 4312 Gleneste Withamsville Road, according to the announcement.
The department has grown considerably since it was formed in 1965 with a single part-time officer. It is now a 60-member, full-service agency that holds national accreditation, according to the department. Chief Anthony Rees, who has worked in law enforcement for 25 years and rose through the ranks as a patrol officer, investigator and sergeant before the Union Township Board of Trustees unanimously appointed him chief in March 2023, leads the department.
The department runs several community programs year-round, including a Citizens Police Academy, women’s self-defense classes and a children’s gun safety class, according to the department. Officials describe the outreach efforts as part of a broader mission to build trust and safety between officers and residents.
The open house is separate from the department’s annual National Night Out event, which the township held earlier this month at Veterans Memorial Park.
