UNION TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Union Township trustees will hold a public hearing on a proposed rezoning along Glen Este-Withamsville Road and are set to hire two new firefighters when the board meets Tuesday at 6 p.m., according to the agenda posted by the township ahead of its regular meeting at the Union Township Civic Center, 4350 Aicholtz Road.
The most substantial item on the agenda is a public hearing on Zoning Case 5-26-Z, a request from Briar Hill Development to rezone two parcels totaling about 0.977 acres at 4330 Glen Este-Withamsville Road from R-1 single-family residential to a Planned Development district, the agenda shows. Jon Hanks is listed as the applicant on behalf of Briar Hill Development. A Planned Development designation allows a property to be developed under a specific site plan negotiated with the township rather than under standard single-family zoning rules.
Trustees are also expected to approve hiring Brennan Riley and Trevor Muchmore as firefighter/EMTs, effective Sept. 28 and Sept. 29 respectively, at pay consistent with the fire department’s collective bargaining agreement and pending completion of medical physical examinations, according to the agenda.
The board’s legislation agenda includes Resolution 2026-52, which would authorize the abatement of vegetation, noxious weeds, garbage, trash and debris at 10 properties across the township, and two related resolutions, 2026-53 and 2026-54, authorizing the removal of junk vehicles from properties on Glenrose Lane and Old State Route 74. Trustees are also scheduled to vote on a funds custodian agreement with the Union Township New Community Authority and a certificate authorizing payment of certain township expenditures.
Also on the agenda is a memorandum of understanding between the township and the International Association of Fire Fighters Local 3412 covering tuition assistance, paramedic school tuition reimbursement, hours of work and probationary employee status, and a vote on accepting the 2026 Tax Incentive Review Council’s recommendations governing enterprise zone and tax incentive agreements in the township.
Township department heads are scheduled to give monthly reports during the meeting, including Fire Chief Austin Clements, Police Chief Anthony Rees, Service Director Matthew Taylor, Planning & Zoning Director Craig Flaute and Township Administrator Cory Wm. Wright. The board is chaired by Joe Dills, with John Becker serving as vice chair and Michael Logue as trustee.
The agenda also lists several upcoming township events, including a Farmers Market this Friday on the Civic Center campus, a CPR/AED training class Sept. 12, the Mt. Moriah Cemetery lantern-lighting ceremony Sept. 19, and the township’s fireworks celebration Sept. 26, which will feature live music, a touch-a-truck event and inflatables beginning at 5 p.m., with fireworks around 8:45 p.m.
Established in 1811, Union Township is the largest township in Clermont County by population, with about 49,600 residents as of the 2020 census, and is home to the headquarters of Total Quality Logistics.
