WILLIAMSBURG, Ohio — Williamsburg Local Schools will begin livestreaming its regular Board of Education meetings on YouTube, starting with Wednesday’s 6 p.m. meeting, the district said in a Facebook post.
The meetings will be broadcast on the district’s YouTube channel, @WilliamsburgLocalSchools, according to the district. Residents who cannot attend in person will be able to watch the proceedings as they happen.
The full schedule of board meetings, along with agendas and minutes, is posted at burgschools.org/page/board-meetings, the district said.
The move comes under Ohio’s Open Meetings Act, the state’s sunshine law, which requires public bodies — including school boards — to conduct deliberations of official business in meetings the public may attend and observe, and to give advance notice of when and where those meetings will be held, according to the Ohio Attorney General’s Office. Livestreaming is not required under the law, but a growing number of Ohio public bodies have adopted it to widen access to meetings beyond residents who can attend in person.
Williamsburg Local Schools serves the village of Williamsburg and surrounding areas of Clermont County under Superintendent Matt Earley. The district’s only high school, at 500 South 5th Street, enrolls roughly 600 students in grades 6-12 and fields athletic teams under the Wildcats nickname.
