BATAVIA TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Batavia Township is telling residents to pay only part of any bill they receive from Republic Services covering trash service after Oct. 31, as the township works through a billing overlap tied to its switch to a new hauler.
The township said it has learned that some residents are being billed by Republic for service extending beyond Oct. 31, 2026, even though the township’s contract with the company ends that day. Residents who receive such a bill should short-pay it, covering only the portion of service through Oct. 31, according to the township. Residents who have already paid Republic in full will be refunded the extra amount in November, the township said.
Batavia Township trustees awarded a new trash and recycling contract to Rumpke Waste & Recycling in July, ending the township’s longtime agreement with Republic. The switch takes effect Nov. 1, when Rumpke begins service at a monthly rate of $21.50, down from the $24.70 rate under Republic, the township has said.
The township said Rumpke crews have already been in the area auditing collection routes ahead of the switch. All residents will receive a mailer directly from Rumpke with instructions for establishing service, according to the township.
Township officials said they plan to share additional details about the transition on Tuesday.
