UNION TOWNSHIP, Ohio — RJ Cinema Distillery and Taproom will host a free screening of “Rain Man,” the Oscar-winning 1988 film shot largely in Cincinnati, on Monday, Sept. 21, as part of a statewide celebration of Ohio’s contributions to moviemaking.
The screening begins at 5 p.m. at the theater, 4450 Eastgate South Drive. Admission is free, but tickets are required, according to Discover Clermont, the county’s tourism bureau, which promoted the event in a Facebook post.
The showing is part of “Ohio Goes to the Movies,” a program that launched in February and runs through October, spanning roughly 250 days of screenings recognized as a signature event of America 250-Ohio, the state’s commemoration of the nation’s semiquincentennial. More than 260 venues across all 88 Ohio counties are taking part, showing films either made by Ohioans or filmed in the state, including “The Shawshank Redemption,” shot in Mansfield and Upper Sandusky; “A Christmas Story,” filmed in Cleveland’s Tremont neighborhood; and “The Avengers,” shot in downtown Cleveland.
“Rain Man,” starring Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise, won the 1989 Academy Award for best picture. Production spent its first four weeks filming in Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky, with scenes shot inside the Dixie Terminal Building downtown, at the former Vernon Manor Hotel and on the John A. Roebling Suspension Bridge.
