MILFORD, Ohio — The city will hold a community remembrance ceremony marking the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks next week, according to a social media post from the city.
The ceremony is set for 9 a.m. Sept. 11 at John E. Cooper, Sr. Fire Station 71, 687-B U.S. Route 50, the city said. Officials described the gathering as a time for “reflection, gratitude, and remembrance.”
The Sept. 11, 2001, attacks killed nearly 3,000 people when hijacked commercial airliners struck the World Trade Center in New York City and the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, and crashed in a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
Station 71 is named for John E. Cooper Sr., who spent 50 years with the Milford Community Fire Department, including 37 years as its chief, before he died in 2017 at age 68. Cooper was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. The department, now led by Chief Mark D. Baird, provides fire and EMS service to Milford and mutual aid to several surrounding communities.
