UNION TOWNSHIP, Ohio — West Clermont High School was placed on lockdown Thursday after officials received a threat, but Union Township police determined the threat was not credible and lifted the lockdown, according to the West Clermont Local School District.
The district said in a Facebook post that all students and staff were safe. Union Township police responded quickly and conducted a thorough investigation before clearing the school, the district said. Officers were expected to continue monitoring the area afterward.
West Clermont High School, at 4101 Bach Buxton Road, is the district’s only high school and one of the largest in Clermont County, enrolling more than 2,100 students. The building opened in 2017 after the district merged the former Amelia and Glen Este high schools into a single campus.
The Union Township Police Department, which patrols the township surrounding the school, is a 60-member, internationally accredited agency that traces its roots to 1965, when it began with a single part-time officer. Chief Anthony Rees has led the department since 2023.
Threats against schools, even those quickly ruled non-credible, typically trigger lockdown protocols while officers search the building and investigate the source before students and staff are allowed to resume normal activity.
