BATAVIA, Ohio — Batavia Township will host its annual Touch a Truck event from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, giving families a chance to climb aboard fire trucks, a school bus, construction equipment and other vehicles outside the township building.
The free event will be held at the township building, 1535 Clough Pike, and will feature a larger lineup of vehicles than in past years, including a concrete truck in addition to the school bus, according to a post from the township. Organizers plan to offer donuts, fruit and water to attendees.
The Central Joint Fire-EMS District, which provides fire and EMS coverage for Batavia Township and the Village of Batavia, will bring apparatus to the event and run interactive firefighting demonstrations for children, the township said. The district was created Jan. 1, 2002, after voters in the township and village approved a measure the previous November to merge the former Batavia Township Fire and Rescue Department and BMOP Volunteer Fire Company into a single joint district. It now operates two stations, one in Batavia and one in Amelia, and responds to more than 4,600 calls a year, making it one of the busiest fire-EMS agencies in Clermont County.
Parking will be available in the township building’s front lot, with overflow directed to the back lot as space fills, the township said.
Batavia Township is governed by a three-member board of trustees: Randy Perry, Rex Parsons and Danielle Wessel.
