MIAMI TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Miami Township police responded to McCormick Elementary School on Wednesday after receiving an alert of an active threat, but school officials and the department said the alarm was false, likely triggered by an equipment malfunction.

The Miami Township Police Department said in a Facebook post that officers were on scene at the school after the alert came in. School officials told police the report was a false alarm, possibly caused by an equipment failure, the department said. Police said there was no threat at McCormick Elementary.

McCormick Elementary serves kindergarten through sixth grade and is part of the Milford Exempted Village School District, which covers the city of Milford and parts of Miami Township and Union Township.
