BATAVIA, Ohio — A 24-year-old Ohio Township man is accused of possessing child sexual abuse material and sending explicit images to someone he believed was a teenage girl, according to the Clermont County Sheriff’s Office.
Timothy C. Waybright was indicted July 16 by a Clermont County grand jury on eight counts of illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material or performance, all second-degree felonies, and one count of disseminating matter harmful to juveniles, a fifth-degree felony, the sheriff’s office said.
The investigation began July 7, when detectives with the sheriff’s office Criminal Investigations Division received a tip that Waybright allegedly possessed child sexual abuse material on his electronic devices and was communicating with underage girls through the app Snapchat, according to the county.
Detectives identified Waybright on Snapchat and began communicating with him while posing as a 14-year-old girl, the sheriff’s office said. During those conversations, Waybright allegedly sent sexually explicit photographs of himself to the account he believed belonged to the teen.
Detectives obtained a warrant charging Waybright with disseminating matter harmful to juveniles, and deputies took him into custody without incident July 8 in the 1000 block of Old U.S. 52, the sheriff’s office said.
After his arrest, Waybright gave a statement admitting he possessed child sexual abuse material on his cellphones and said he obtained the material by “adding random people on Snapchat” and having them send explicit photos and videos, according to the sheriff’s office.
Detectives seized two cellphones and a laptop, and a forensic examination by the sheriff’s office Surveillance Analysis and Forensic Evidence unit identified numerous files believed to contain child sexual abuse material, the release said.
None of the children depicted are believed to be from Clermont County or connected to the residence involved in the investigation, according to the sheriff’s office. Detectives are working with the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children and the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force to identify the victims.
Waybright was scheduled to appear July 17 in Clermont County Common Pleas Court before Judge Victor Haddad, according to the sheriff’s office. He remained in the Clermont County Jail with no bond.
Suspects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
