BATAVIA, Ohio — About a dozen Clermont County government offices remained closed to the public Thursday as storm-related power outages stretched into a second day, the county said in an update posted at 7:15 a.m.
County officials said they were coordinating with Duke Energy and other partners to restore power as soon as possible and would continue posting updates through the day.
The county’s Animal Shelter was closed to the public, according to the update. The Building Inspection and Permit Central office at 2275 Bauer Road was also closed, though staff planned to carry out previously scheduled building inspections.
At the Public Health department, the administration and vital statistics offices at 2275 Bauer Road, which handle birth and death certificates, were closed. Previously scheduled health inspections were still set to take place, and the nursing division and WIC offices at 2400 Clermont Center Drive, Suite 200, remained open, the county said.
Clermont Transportation Connection’s office was closed and unable to receive messages, though public bus service continued running with possible delays, according to the update.
Several courts and related offices were also closed, including Common Pleas Court and the Common Pleas Clerk’s office, Domestic Relations Court and its clerk’s office, Juvenile Court, and the county’s probate, probation and public defender’s offices. The county’s Records Center was closed as well.
The Water Resources Department’s customer service office at 4400 Haskell Lane was closed, and the Engineer’s administration building was shut down, though highway crews continued responding to storm damage, the county said.
The county said any offices not listed in its update were open as usual and urged residents to check its website and Facebook page for further updates.
The closures follow severe thunderstorms that swept across Clermont County earlier in the week, knocking out power to tens of thousands of Duke Energy customers and prompting closures at several county offices Wednesday as crews worked to restore service.
