BATAVIA, Ohio — Clermont County’s Juvenile Community Resource Center is opening enrollment for a new seven-week program designed to help local teenagers build confidence and coping skills, according to a Facebook post from Clermont County.
“All About Being a Teen” is a free empowerment group that tackles a different life skill each week, including self-care, personal power, positive communication and anger management, the county said in the post. The program runs in separate cycles for two age groups, 10- to 13-year-olds and 14- to 16-year-olds, according to the resource center’s website.
The group meets Mondays from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the resource center, 2339 Clermont Center Drive in Batavia, with new seven-week cycles beginning every few weeks. The curriculum covers nurturing yourself, personal power, positive communication, anger management, hope and goal-setting, and staying safe from drugs, peer pressure and bullying, according to the county. Each cycle wraps up with a family night that reviews the skills participants learned over the seven weeks.
The resource center, also at 2339 Clermont Center Drive, was created with a state grant secured by Judge James A. Shriver of the Clermont County Probate and Juvenile Courts, according to the county’s website. Its mission is to connect youth and families with community resources on a voluntary, front-end basis, with the goal of keeping young people out of the juvenile justice system. The center is directed by Paige Olson, who has worked with Clermont County Juvenile Court for 32 years.
The teen program is offered alongside several other resource center initiatives, including support groups for parents, a networking group for custodial grandparents and life-skills training for older teens, according to the county’s website.
Parents interested in enrolling a teen can RSVP with Hillary Adams at 513-732-7808 or [email protected], the county said. There is no cost to participate.
