GOSHEN, Ohio — Students at Spaulding Elementary School have new playground equipment for recess after Goshen Local Schools finished replacing structures that had stood for 24 years, the district said in a Facebook post.
The project, completed last week, replaced play equipment that was original to the building’s 2003 dedication as Spaulding Elementary, according to the district. The upgrade is part of a three-year capital plan Goshen Local Schools is carrying out across its four school buildings.

“Outside recess at Spaulding Elementary has been a blast recently with great fall weather and brand new playground equipment,” the district said in the post announcing the completion.
Spaulding Elementary is named for Joseph Spaulding Jr., who began teaching music in Goshen schools in 1959 and went on to serve two decades as principal of the district’s middle school, from 1966 until his retirement in 1986. The district dedicated the building in his honor on Nov. 2, 2003, and the school now serves grades three through five. Spaulding was inducted into the Goshen High School Hall of Fame in 1999.
Goshen Local Schools, established in 1887, serves students across Goshen and Harlan townships and the village of Pleasant Plain in northern Clermont County. The district operates four schools: Goshen High School, Goshen Middle School, Marr/Cook Elementary and Spaulding Elementary.
Students have been using the new playground structures since the project wrapped up, the district said.
