PIERCE TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Pierce Township police will collect unused and expired prescription medications for safe disposal this weekend as part of the Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, the department said in a Facebook post.
The drive-through collection runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, at the township office, 950 Locust Corner Road. Officers will not accept needles or liquids, according to the post.
Take Back Day is a twice-a-year program the DEA has run since 2010 to give people a free, anonymous way to clear unused medications out of their homes and reduce the risk that pills are misused or diverted. The agency’s April collection was the 30th since the program began, drawing in 642,410 pounds of medication from more than 4,400 sites nationwide and pushing the program’s total haul past 21 million pounds, according to the DEA.
The Pierce Township department is led by Chief Paul Broxterman, who took over in February 2022 after a 33-year career with the Cincinnati Police Department, including 16 years as a captain. He holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Cincinnati and is a graduate of the Southern Police Institute’s Administrative Officers Course.
