WILLIAMSBURG, Ohio — Jackson Township has a new trustee. Shane Garr was sworn in Tuesday to fill the remainder of a vacant term on the township’s three-member Board of Trustees, the township said in a Facebook post.
Garr, who has lived in Jackson Township for more than 25 years, spent 38 years working for the Clermont County Engineer’s Office before joining the board, according to the township. The county engineer’s office, headquartered in Batavia, is responsible for maintaining roads and bridges, snow and ice removal, drainage and culvert work, and surveying services across Clermont County.
“We look forward to Shane’s contributions as he begins this new chapter of service to the residents of Jackson Township,” the township said in its announcement.
Jackson Township’s Board of Trustees is a publicly elected, three-member body that serves as the township’s executive authority, overseeing fund appropriations, taxation, purchasing and township property. Trustees are elected to four-year terms, with elections held in odd-numbered years. The board holds regular business meetings on the first Monday of each month and work sessions on the third Monday, both at 7 p.m. at the Jackson Township Community Center, 3263 U.S. Route 50.
Jackson Township was established in June 1834 and named for Andrew Jackson, who was president at the time. The township is home to about 3,100 residents across 31.2 square miles and remains predominantly agricultural and rural, according to the township. It provides fire protection, road and bridge maintenance, cemetery upkeep, and zoning services to residents.
Garr fills the seat for the remainder of its term. The township did not identify in its post how long that remaining term runs or whom Garr is replacing.
